Sunday gone 22nd saw another great contingency from Comeragh cc travel to Limerick for the first of the classic league races. In the C/Vets race we had Finbar Power, Martin Cullinane and Eoin O’shea and following on from his great ride in Carrick, Martin Cullinane again found himself in a breakaway group along with teammate Eoin O’shea however it was not meant to be and both did really well along with Finbar finishing in the main bunch on the finish line.
In the Classic Senior A/B race Comeragh cc had again come a win in mind, Conor McGrath, Tom Fanning, Keith Gater, Mark Nugent, Don Feighery and Robin Kelly. The course which was relatively flat for a classic race wasn’t going to be easy, the roads which were dead and very narrow were going to make it difficult for anyone of the 100 strong riders in the race to get away, however on the 2nd lap around a small group of 9 riders managed to get away including Comeraghcc rider Keith Gater, the rest of the team working well together to control the race behind. The front group which were riding at a fast pace built up a lead of 3 minutes at one stage, the pace however taking it’s toll on Keith who eventually made his way back to the main bunch. With 2 laps to go the Comeragh train went on the attack to try to bring back the 3 minutes and passing the start/finish area for the last time had the front group in their sight, a crash however on the last lap broke the momentum of the chase and it came down to just 22secs at the finish. Robin Kelly best of the Comeraghcc team in 11th place, but a great team effort once again from all members of Comeragh cc.
This weekend will see the Comeragh riders travel to Carlow and Bohermeen where we will hopefully bring home some more silverwear. Up and coming Comeraghcc events:
April 18th – Sportif/Leisure 50km/100km cycle along the coast road.
April 27th – Table Quiz, Revolution Bar
May 9th – Fundraising in City Square for the Comeragh cc FBD Insurance Team
