A handful of images of the Tour of Ulster courtesy of Sinead and the Corkman thanks to Emma Walsh are now in the galleries.
In other news, being stuck in bed ill for nearly 5 days I have discovered that its true.. the devil really does make work for idle hands. Sorry Keith, I am sure you will repay me with interest when I get back on the road !

24/03/2008 Evening all. I finally have the site back to normal operation (I think), please feel free to have a play with it and either email me or put a message on the forum with any problems you find. Without boring you with the technical details, our host company changed its database settings requiring me to rewrite substantial sections of the database code behind the site (as well as a couple of mails to their support line, consisting largely of four letter words). Bit of a busmans holiday for me, but since I have spent the last 7 hours trying to get the site back online, the least you lot can do is send me on any pics you have of the weekend asap! Our boys did the club proud at the weekend and I want to boast about them. Send whatever you have to davidquigley@comeraghcc.com.
By the way, if anyone else wants a comeraghcc mail account, or a comeraghcc mail address pointed to your regular email, please let me know, I'd be happy to hook you up.

Site broken folks, so this will be a quickie. The Gorey 3 day ended today. Keith was second on day one, when we had 5 riders in the break. On day 2, Keith had a technical issue in the timetrial, slipping a chain which cost him dear in the end, losing 19 seconds to Philip Lavery. In the afternoon, we again had 4 riders in the break and Keith took fourth in the bunch sprint. Today, 3 riders were up the road, no contenders, Keith took the bunch sprint for another fourth place but could not make time up on Lavery despite a strong team effort to do so. Details are patchy right now but it looks like Comeragh have ended with 2nd (Keith), 3rd (Conor) and 4th (Mark), so the team prize should be all sewn up. Keith has also won the KOH jersey. Well done lads, you have done the club proud. This also means that Keith is now an A rider.
Meanwhile in Kerry, Robin has been recording bunch finishes all weekend (no mean feat considering the insanely high standard - I saw numerous household names and pro's flying out the back of the peleton all weekend) despite illness and injury, but reports are coming in that he had to abandon towards the end of todays final stage. Hopefully you will be feeling alright again soon Robin. Ciaran won 3 of the 4 stages (giving the fourth to his teamate), from what I saw he was that much better than the rest of the field, I could have put him on a BMX and he would have still won. Considering the high standard of competition that is really saying something. Take note, the Power fella is the strongest rider in the country right now bar none.
Hopefully full reports and photos to follow in the next day or two.

I would like to call on all members to support the Ken Flavin Memorial Cycle for the Hope Foundation in aid of the street children of Calcutta. The event takes place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th of February.
It begins on Saturday at 10am at the City Hall in Waterford, passing through Carrick, Clonmel, Cahir, Tipperary and ending in Limerick. The following day it goes from Limerick to Patrickswell, Adare, Newcastle West, AbbeyFeale, Duagh, Listowel.
Contact Pat Flavin on 087-2397975 or 087-4160904 or 068-47111
To put a Comeragh perspective on it, Ken Flavin was a very good friend of Martin O'Briens sister who died Christmas '06 from multiple brain aneurisms. Ken was a young 20 something, a great character, was involved in the Spraoi, worked with AOL (hence the Waterford link - Tommy knew him) and was involved in a number of charities. Many of you may have known him.
His father Pat (a recent but keen cyclist) and Martin O'Brien's sister are organizing this cycle to raise money for the Hope Foundation which Ken was involved in. They have cyclists & non cyclists lined up to take part and are hoping to entice a few Waterford based participants for the Saturday trip. The cyclists themselves do not have to raise money (though any contribution would be welcome). The idea is to slow thru towns and villages where a group of volunteers will shake buckets to raise the cash.
I know our racing fraternity, including myself are off to Tralee on the Sunday so wont be in a position to go all the way to Limerick the day before, but I am proposing that to support this worthy event we schedule our Saturday Spin to go as far as Clonmel, in order to give them as big a turnout as possible for the big start on Saturday morning. A handy ride probably suits the race lads for the next day anyway.
Some of the non racing fraternity might be interested in going all the way. There will be refreshments along the way, shower facilities and a bite to eat in Limerick before being brought back to Waterford.

"My thanks to everyone who assisted and encouraged me during my misfortunate event on last Sundays spin".
Just to let everyone know that Eamonn is now out of hospital and on the road to recovery. Hopefully we will be seeing him out on the roads again soon, resplendent with Titanium hip parts. Yeah, I know, I know, they musn't do carbon hip parts, but hey, Titanium is light enough and stiff enough for any cyclist.

Bad news has reached us tonight that Eamonn Hartley's crash this morning was worse than the paramedics first expected. Sadly, Eamonn went down in treacharous icy conditions on Paddy Browns road at the start of this morning's ride and as a result broke his hip and tonight is currently awaiting surgery to have a metal plate and pins put into his hip. Obviously as a result Eamonn will be out of action for quite some time.
On behalf of the club I'd like to extend our best wishes to Eamonn, get well soon Eamonn, I hope you make a speedy recovery.

The AGM will be organised within the next two weeks, however due to changes in personal in
the cycling Ireland offices I would suggest those wishing to race in the first race of the season
in Feb (Tralee on the 24th I think) should go to Pat this week and pay the €25 club licence and also the €115 racing licence
fee, this should ensure that licence's will be back on time for the first race.
Notification of date/time/venue for the AGM will be sent out this week.

Congratulations to Wexford Wheelers on yet another successful Christmas Hamper race. It is a wonderful fun event which helps to break up the monotony of the winter routine and it really should be better attended. The annual Wexford Wheelers Christmas Hamper race takes place this Sunday, this is usually a well attended event and was won in 2005 by Robin Kelly, who I think will admit himself only won because I wasn't there. I would encourage everyone in the club to turn out for this great race (I am looking at you triathlon boys too, I know you're reading this), its a very fairly handicapped race and the more people there the less chance Robin has of winning and to be honest I am sick of loading up this site and seeing Robins mug grinning back at me with an armful of silverware....

As the cycling season is over for another year, Comeragh Cycling Club finished it off with our Annual Charity Cycle,
All 46 riders set off from City Hall at 10.30 on Sunday morning in showery conditions, the pace was kept at a steady
18-20 miles per hour to keep the group together. We travelled through Mullinavat, Ballyhale, Thomastown and stopped
in Inistioge for refreshments which we luckily finished before the heavens opened. Even though the riders were wet and
cold there was a great atmosphere in the group which stayed together until the top of Glenmore Hill when the racing
element took over and chased one another down to the finish back at city hall. We would like to thank everyone who
turned up to support our annual event, the proceeds of which will be donated to a local charity yet to be decided.

Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival Race Friday 13/07
Taken from the Wexford Wheelers Website : There is a race organised for Kilmore Quay Seafood Festival on Friday 13th (Yes, we know!). Sign on is at 7pm in the Stella Maris Hall (half way down the hill into Kilmore Village) and the race will be over 6 laps of a 4 mile circuit starting at 7.30. Veterans among us will remember this 4 mile circuit from the last race run in Kimore Quay. How long ago...?? Well, Martin Early won a stage of the Tour De France on the same day. Declan Lonergan was the runaway winner of this race...it's unlikely he'll make another appearance! This is open to Juniors, 2nd & 3rd Cats as well as Vets.
Clonmel Festival Criterium Saturday 14/07
